ATV/UTV Law Change Effective June 1, 2026

If you ride ATVs or UTVs in Wisconsin, new state rules go into effect June 1. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding riders to know the changes before heading out this summer.

Three new requirements take effect on June 1. First, UTV drivers are now required to wear seat belts. Many UTVs come with factory harnesses or lap belts, but the legal requirement to use them has not always been on the books at the state level. That changes June 1. Second, new restrictions on window tinting go into effect. UTVs with aftermarket cabs or full-enclosure kits will need to meet the new tinting standards. Check your setup before you ride. Third, any ATV or UTV driver involved in a crash is now required to render aid to others involved in the incident. Leaving the scene without helping is no longer a legal option.

As you use these vehicles in the Town of Dexter, please remember to adhere to all state laws and requirements.
